Just a quick update on Waste Land, for those of you who still haven't seen it. For those in the US, Waste Land will air on PBS, on the Independent Lens series. Check your local listings to see when it's on in your area! Also, the movie is now available on Netflix, both on DVD and streaming.
Here are some videos from PBS featuring Waste Land's director and some clips from the movie.
Sorry for the slow posts this week. I have a few new ones coming up next week!
It will also be interesting to The Rock's new action flick that's set in Rio and due for distribution this summer. I'm particularly hoping that African American film stars like The Rock or Will Smith will take broad advantage of the emerging Brazilian film market. They might do well in a country where over 50% of the population sports African heritage.
And speaking of pure (albeit fun!) junk cinema, what did you think of Wild Orchid, which was set in Rio? It had a ludicrous plot, but also a great selection of Brazilian music, as well as captivating cinematography.
