I'm on the look out for a great non-profit based in Rio. Ideally, it wouldn't be huge, like Afro Reggae, and definitely one without a sketchy record. I'm looking for one that does great work and always needs help with funding and supplies.
Any ideas?

"... and definitely one without a sketchy record."
Better look out of the country then.

I went on a great tour of Rocinha, with a local who supports a nonprofit called 2Bros Foundation - got to see foreign volunteers teaching dance, helping with HW etc, he also took us to see a place called the Oficina do Tio Lino, that provides a place for kids to go after school to work on art projects, but is lacking in supplies. Both in Rocinha, his website is http://www.faveladodarocinha.com/2bros.html

2 Brothers is a good organization in Rocinha, but Rocinha is so high-profile and gets so much attention, it may be better to look to a smaller and more needy community.

I know one of the founders of 2bros, he's an old coplleague of mine and the NGO is very good.
