The other day, I was leaving the apartment and I got a sudden craving for iced coffee. "Man, I wish I was near a Starbucks," I thought. "But maybe, just maybe, I can find somewhere that has take out coffee." Brazilians don't really believe in drinking and walking at the same time, nor do they like their coffee cold, so it was a long shot. I've been here over a year and have never had take out coffee.
But I remembered a little coffee shop nearby, and hoped they would have some sort of to-go cup. I went in and asked for a "frozen cappuchino" to go (that was its name on the menu), and lo and behold, I GOT ICED COFFEE TO GO. It resembled a frappuchino, plus a dousing of chocolate sauce and sprinkling of cinnamon on top.
So maybe it wasn't a real to go cup, and more of a regular plastic cup with a straw and no top, and maybe my tongue started to taste like soap a little towards the end, but while I was walking down the street in Botafogo with my iced coffee to go, I felt pure, unbridled joy.
I have coffee to go everyday. Actually, I don't realize my college life without it, it is based on coffee to go. There's a coffee shop in my college. As you said, the cup is not exactly made to take the coffee around, but I can use it fine.
Sometimes it is cold, others hot...But is always capuccino. I cannot LIVE without my daily capuccino.

Hi Rachel:
There aren't any Starbucks in Rio at all? Or just around your place?
I'm not a coffee person, but I can imagine I'd feel the same if I've got a craving for a Coke.
Best regards from Peru!
